Wild. Terrible pictures. It just looks like something that would be setting on a shelf in a junk store or antique shop - which coincidentally is how I found my flathead (Merc) and a set of Guide headlights. Crazy to think what old junk can sell for - because on many many levels that's all stuff like this is.

Or the guy who bought it is hard core. Busted his *** for months saving the dough - stashing it away hoping all the while to run accross this very accessory.

Expensive parts don't always equal rich guy.

for what that comp*** costs, ive seen several 37-39 chevy 2 door sedans 'complete' that you could probably drive for that price.
saw a nice 39 chev 2 door driveable sitting next to a 32 ford 3 window dash once & the prices on each were the same.

i guess someone needs that comp*** bad. someone with alot of money & a new drill & cant wait to drill a hole & screw (1 screw) down that comp*** & spend all Saturday morn doing it. :D

Dude, I sold a locking GM gas cap for my Dad last year that needed rechromed and the thing went for over $500. Sold to a guy with a bomb. I asked HAMBers about it, and a bomb builder sent photos of his '48 Chevy and said "once you've got $50,000 in paint and chrome, what's another $1000 for a gas cap?" !! Thank God I like flat black paint and no accessories!

That's gotta be adjustable. AND mounted far away from not only the buyer's wallet but also the steel plate in his(or her) to be unaffected and show 'true north'

The early Ford to LaSalle trans adapter I was bidding on (ended yesterday) went for almost a thousand bucks.

"What makes it a true gm part ?"

It's in the catalog for the proper year of car, listed in the accessory brochures from GM...and if it were new in the original box, the crazy price would go crazy all over again. The same comp*** made at the same time by the same manufacturer, with no GM or Chevy logo, originally sold at Western Auto or JC Whitney, would be a nice little trinket that would go for $20.

Early Ford genuine acessories are just as nuts as early Chevy--the biggest difference is that a genuine Ford car is worth more than its genuine accessories.

Accessories for Fords and Chevies oft go for more than equivalent parts for cl***ics because there are a hundred times as many people who want the goodies! Last Hershey, I bought a perfect Sportlite head for my Ford at a Caddy booth for $75. If the same damn part had been at a '32 Ford nutcase's booth, I wouldn't have been able to afford it...

If you think those people are crazy, you haven't been buying much antique speed equipment.

"Only if you do it the way the magazines suggest"...hmmm...the way it was done in 1952 is oft pricier now than the 1-800-chinesehotrodstuff equivalent...but you do have the possibility of scrounging up a lucky find, which streetrodders don't have.

Put a real 32 Ford anything for sale and watch people trip over themselves for it......... same kinda deal .........

  24. I talked with a buddy of mine who grew up in the 30's... he said that after the war, cars were in short supply, at least out here in California. (probably everywhere).

Dealers would take a deposit, and put you on a waiting list.

When your name came up, you could buy the car that came in, or get back in line.

So the dealers would load all this **** on their cars... and sell it to you, whether you wanted it or not.

I think it's cool that guys want to replicate that era of American culture... lower them down, and pile all that ugly **** on them.

It's kind of like a contest to see who can pile the most **** on.

I like contests... I'm a compe***ive sort... butI don't know that I have the desire to enter THAT kind of contest... but some guys do, and they'll pay dearly to win. Cool.

    Sam.

Wouldn't you like to be the fly on the wall when the high bidders gets that puppy home. "Look honey, I bought a 70 year old comp*** that looks like sheeeiiiittt and on top of that you can't even read it. Oh, and the best part honey, I only paid $3000.00 for it."

Hey, don't any of you know how rare a 1939 Chevrolet OnStar system is?

  27. I sold a ****ty '40 accessory spinner wheel for $425 - the same wheel that fell out of a ripped up s**** car and I tripped over it on the ground, literally, said to myself "hey this is kinda cool, but probably worthless" and brought home. Good spinner, no horn ****on, pitted, a couple cracks in the pot metal, and the plastic needed to be completely redone.

I got checking and the really nice ones go for $2000-$2500, so by the time you rechromed and replasticed (is that a word?) this one it would still be a deal even if that all cost another $800.

Sounds just like the Harley Dealerships the past few years!

That reminds me, I've got a goofy visor to sell on e-bay now.

Wow. I barely got $500 for a chopped car and my Buick is still sitting on the market with hardly a tire kicker. I must find some **** and stick it on eBay. Maybe some old vintage spark plugs or other stuff. Jeez.
