ok... ok... plan B. It's not like you don't have plenty of projects to choose from.

  14. Hey Chaddliac- My buddy scrablmed to get this done for a car show here- The body (loose from frame) was painted Monday, Fenders painted Wednesday and the car was driven to the show Friday..

Well with regret, I'm pulling "Handsome Ransom" from the LSR trip.
It's been wild and crazy chasing down parts and the snow jacked me up
on my timeline. Some of the stuff I could have been more proactive
on, but all in all in my heart I don't want to rush it. I want it to
be done right and done once!!

So after I got to the body shop to pick up my frame which looked
great black, I noticed the rearend hadn't been touched.... which was
supposed to be painted and picked up with the frame. OK... my buddy
begins to apologize about the color problem and the rearend not being
touched.... and come to find out the painter....
had be having trouble with a kidney stone and having
troubles passing it. Then on top of that this week painter's niece
committed suicide and it has really tore him up mentally, hence the
problem with the frame color. He said he knew for a fact that the painter
knew the color because they had discussed it and asked him
about using a new paint product on it.

So my buddy tells me it'd take an hour or hour and a half to paint the
rearend... so I'm thinking ok that's gonna crunch into my assembley
time tonight but it'll be done. While he is shooting the rearend, I
go out of the booth to check out the frame (which is hanging upside
down), and begin to inspect it, Looks like glass, I mean so flat and
glossy it's edible!! So I thought the frame looked good, till I
squatted down to look at the top side which is facing down, I find
3-5 really major runs that are not located in an area where the body
would cover it, but right in the front next to the grille on the
front cross bar!!! YIKES!!!! Ok.... then notice they didn't smooth
the front bar out like I had asked them.... so now were into this
frame with 2 complete paint jobs and a primer job.... keep in mind
that I'm trading this out for their identity and a ton of ads I've
already worked up for them. But I really felt bad, I'm not mad at
all I know the painter is going through some tough times, so as he was
painting the rearend it was just in my heart to throw the towel in
and take a step back and not try to kill myself to get to LSR.

So after the rear was done, I told him I wasn't real happy with the frame and that
I only wanted to build this car once, and I didn't want to build it
drive it to Austin and have to pull it apart, so we both agreed that
they would keep the frame and work it out without a deadline and I
would pick it up later after we get back. I'll start putting the
frame together at that time and finishing the metal work I need to do
on my end before the body guy gets it.

So there you have it.... it's a somber time for me over here, but
without you guys rooting me on and staying so positive I wouldn't be
this far in the build and I wouldn't be looking at any paint, I'd be
looking at rust still!!! There's not a rusty part on the car at all
    now!!

Thanks fellas.... Maybe next year we'll drive it to LSR with no
problems, just get in and zip down!!!

Welcome to the world of building Hot Rod's,and depending on someone else.Chad my man the car looks killer.

  18. That's unfortunate news for sure, but look how much you got done in such a short time. Rushing it would only make you unhappy with the results.

Crap! Well at least you can take your time and get it right the first time. Plus you can work the bugs out around your place instead of on an 8 hour drive out of state! Sux though!!:(:(

Exactly... I'm very proud of the headway I've made with it, and I think it's gonna look great, so I just had to take a step back. No biggie... it hasn't discouraged me any cause I know it's gonna look awesome!!

Atta boy Chad, I think you have made the right decision. I know, I did that once in '77 and thought the car was finished 11.30 PM Tuesday evening. Started from Indiana on Wednsday morning at 6AM to the NATS in Minnesota. Long story short, the car made it under it's own power but was trailered home because of shortsidedness and overlooked tidbits that should never have happened. Trust me, when it is finished, you will be much happier with it as you will then know it's "good to go".

Thanks Dickster... that's exactly what I don't want happening!!
