I am not going to willingly buy stolen property but what are the chances of us buying something that was ripped off at a swap meet. How do we know those 35 Ford wire wheels were purchased properly from all of the previous owners, or the dash insert for the Oldsmobile sitting next to it?

Give the guy a break he is just relating a story he was told about the car, that doesn't make him to be the bad guy here just the the guy whos car has a history.

I grew up in Oscoda Mi. home of Wurtsmith AFB and worked in the hobby shop for a couple of years... I was wondering if this happened there? when I worked a the shop the guys could rent bays for a quater an hour and received 20 chits (numbered brass tags) and would use them to get tools out of the crib and on any given day there would be a wait to get in. There was always hotrods and street cars being built..some nice some not.. and I needed up with more then one because they would lose interest and the storage fee was a buck a day and it could get out of control pretty fast. If you have ever had parts or a car stolen it*****s so Im with most of you... it would be hard to build knowing the history

Well said. Cool story. It reminds me of that movie HOT-ROD where he steals the hemi out of the cop car to stick in his Willys. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Damn whats the chances of that happening:rolleyes:

A lot of the states didnt have****les when you originally purchased the car, all you had was a bill of sale. Some states were still doing this up into the 60's so the chances of running across one like that is very strong.

So does everyone hate America because we 'stole' it from the Indians?

Great story, afterall you haven't done anything wrong, a guy did a long time ago.

I think I remember where Fuel Pump got the 32 from ...
And that man ... is a stand up type of fellow :)

Neither one of them stole anything ...

It would be interesting to REALLY know ... how many 32's and 32 parts have been stolen over the years. In 77 years ... you know a good bit of stuff has been stolen.

    Some what O/T ...
In the early 70's, I was living in North Carolina and there was a old barn type hanger at a small, local air strip. I heard that the barn was full of old cars. I went there and looked inside ... sure enought there were 5 or 6 old cars. One was a ... 1932 Ford Cabriolet ...

There were a few boards rotten and missing from the barn, so entry was easily possible. I went inside and the 32 was complete ... and fairly nice. I wanted it. I found out who owned the barn/hanger and asked about the 32. NOT for SALE ... :( . I asked again about 6 months later. Still not for sale.

I was young and stupid ... so ... I decided that the 32 Cabriolet was wasting away and I would rescue it ( for myself ). I had all the tools I needed. I loaded up my truck ... hooked up my car trailer and picked a night when the moon was at it's lowest. It was a mid week night at 1 a.m. in the morning when I pulled up at the barn/hanger. I got the trailer ( with a hand winch ) positioned, dropped the ramps and got out my bolt cutters. The lock was a cheap flimsy thing and would have been real easy to cut.

As much as I wanted it ( real bad ) ... I could not do it. I just am not a thief.
I loaded up and went home. WITHOUT the Cabriolet.

I moved away and lost contact with the Cabriolet and it's owner. About 10 years later I went back and the barn/hanger and the 32 was gone. A new housing subdivion was where the air strip had been. Always wondered what happened to the Cabriolet. :D but have always been glad I never cut that cheap, flimsy little lock.

So does that mean any of you people who own an old car that was once used for running moon shine are going to go out and get rid of your cars today. They were involved in an illegal act at one time too.

You'll be ashamed of yourself for building this car.

So, just push it outside and come get this thing out of your way.

That way you'll be able to sleep at night.

The car has bad karma .So after you finish it and some one steals the car or the doors just remember it makes a good story .Wrong is wrong not even if you really want something .Glade you own a 32 but the story kind of*****s makes me think of my projects setting around for someone to try to steal them.My last 2 cents

Good grief you guys get a life. It's an old story attached to a car that is probably 99% BS and would have probably have happened before most of you were even born.
I don't condone theft either and hate theives but the airman probably paid what he was offering or more for the car as it was.

For Christs sake guys, it is a story of the history of the car he now owns... its not as if Rich just did this chain of events the other day. How do any of us know the complete history of any car we own, unless it was one that was handed down through the family, or we are old enough to have bought it new, I just think it is neat that there is a story behind it.

I suppose if he was to say that the car was once owned by Al Capone, or his grandfather robbed banks with that car, it would have been alright and cool.

Sometimes things get blown way out of proportion on here...deep breaths... serentity now!

Yeah, a notorious type story can be interesting. It's just a slippery slope saying it's OK, because they were only going to wreck the thing anyway. It's that kind of rationale that says it's OK for a committee of higher thinkers to take away another man's property.

Would I relay the same story? Yeah, probably.....

Oh my god! How dare you build something like that with a stolen part on it!

I hereby demand that the person who stole the doors - now that he's waived his 5th amendment rights - be duly criminally proscecuted for the theft of those doors, as well as the commission of a conspiracy to commit fraud through the purchase of that vehicle! I also hereby demand that the heirs to the original owner now be compensated for the loss of the sale of those doors at their 'going rate' 60 years ago, plus interest and appreciation.

    WTF?

Many of us have vehicles where the parts are non-traceable, and therefore have aquired them through legal means - i.e. swap meets, FRIENDS, HAMB MEMBERS, classified adds, etc. Every one of us who've purchased parts through this nature without a certificate (of some sort) have potentially purchased parts that were not aquired in a legal manner!

Holy*****! Does that mean I need to rush out into my garage and set both my RPU and my Dubble A on fire since I may have inadvertantly purchased goods that may have been stolen 50 years ago by 2 or 3 - possibly more - owners ago?

Dude found a story about his 32 5 window. Maybe not the best story, but it is interesting the manner through which it was aquired. I'm former USAF, and I by no means feel blighted through this story. And, it is the HISTORY of his 32. Don't like it, STFU and deal with it. I think it's amusing, if nothing else.

Momma always said if you've got nothing nice to say.... say it somewhere else.

I just bought this old chrysler that's got stories like you wouldn't believe. Somebody took a dump on the dash, some fat dude had a heart attack in it, some crazy**** owner pushed it around a junkyard til his back went out. I scored it cheap cause a bunch of*****ters believe in hokey-dokey spirits & curses and such. But she's gonna be a great ride, you can just tell.

hey , a story is a story , fuel pump didnt steal it hes just relaying the past history of the car . in a perfect world the guy that stoled the doors would have been caught in the act......shot or at very least got the***** kicked out of him (thieves*****), the junk yard owner would have sat on his**** and never built it into a dirk tracker , but instead stashed the car inside for 30 plus years then decided to sell it to ME for 500 bucks .

Oh my god Andy Granatelli is going to Hell. He took the cluster gear out of his Friends boss`s car A 1934 ford and put it in his so he could go to the street race he set up. They smashed the case to get the gear. Then pushed the car back to the same spot and never told his boss who name was Frenchy. True story IT was also in the book They call me Mr.500.
