kenagain<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_4104784", true); </SCRIPT> What a great post for number 666... TO FUNNY......................
Aint nothing wrong with that, dont be afraid to hang out and learn. You can learn a lot from guys like that, and if you're lucky they might even have enough rebel in them to deep down inside like traditional cars and want to help I'm 24 and have just about used up the "young rodder" deal where people will help me just because i'm young, but it was great while it lasted
Ken, If your offering a welder I will kick in 25 dollars for shipping...... send me a pm with the info........ anybody else willing to step up and help out......?
Tell your parents in a letter that you are going to elope with a stripper with aids. but she guarantees the kids will be fine. And you will send them updates once you get settled in your rental trailor out in the desert. And you plan on growing all your own food and making your own drugs. Then after they read the letter make some noise in the garage so they will find you and all will be well.
Work harder. Nothing worth having is easy. Earn that welder with pure sweat and dedication to a goal. Wanna know what seperates successful car builders from guys with cars in disassembled storage? Dedication and Sweat.
Hey good idea I'm down for $25.00 to help the kid out. ken p.m. me also with info where to send a check...ghost
Keep after it! I learned to gas weld in highschool and years later took a welding class in the metro - I was the oldest in the class. I was older than the instructer! Finally bought a mig welder and just "eased" into the action. Before I knew it I had some good tools and a place to work. But it all came well after I was 40 years old. My son is now 22 and I try to encourage him (and partly finance him) in his gear head activities - building a '62 Nova betweeen his college time. My dad liked cars but was not into building thm. I had to pick up knowledge from the magazines, from other folks and from trial and error. BUT, now we have the HAMB! You mad a Jane Fonda or somethin?
I need a bead roller, but my wife wont let me have one. anyone....... my address is...... naw, really yall are a great bunch of guys to be helping this kid out. Id like to think if I were in the position to contribute I would. You guys have my respect.
ive been in your shoes not long ago..im 20 years old so im a young guy as well...i needed a welder and i found a pretty decent one at harbor freight..they are not top notch but it worked..i think i paid right under 500 for it..but it got stolen from me as well as all of my tools in my garage...so maybe try pawn shops..sometimes they have decent stuff there...
It's really awesome of yall helping me out. I luckily found out that my grandmother is selling her husband's old welding truck with an enclosure. We went and looked at it and found a mig in the center. It was rained on a bit the last couple days it was out of the quanset but I think once i get the cover off in the shop and let the fan sit on it a while it'll dry out. I cant thank you guys enough for the support. thanks again, fatty
You'll be thanking your folks down the road about saving that cash now, trust me. The best thing that you can learn besides how to make money is how to save it. With money in the bank, comes a lot of security and options. Best to stick with that and do what you can when you can outside that with the car stuff. You sound pretty young. Take your time and enjoy, you probably got plenty of time ahead of you to work on old cars. Don't try to force it too much and just keep your eye out for opportunities as they come.
kid you were born after granada get over it or pick some thing more curent to harp on. good luck with the car or kwait for that mater not to be an ass but.... duran duran out
haha. Yeah man, there's enough to be pissed about today without getting upset about what happened when your parents were kids.
Another option is to sign up for an autobody class at a local jc. U can usually work on your own stuff there.
Hey kid is this a bs post , or are you serious no info as yet and guys are offering shipping money too get with it Ken
sko_ford kid you were born after granada get over it or pick some thing more curent to harp on. good luck with the car or kwait for that mater.................. ____ F.Y.I. _________ IT WAS A NAM THING ! I also disliked her ,as a matter of fact ,I still do BUT I'M OVER IT............
I got nothing to offer except people have been there, done that, and it must not have been that great since they divorced her. Harbor Frieght sells a wire feed for about $90 on sale, it might be a piece of crap but it would get you started. I'd say you're better off with something with better controls, though. I paid $140 a few years ago for a Campell Hausfeld, then have yet to use the damned thing. Probably should have tried it while it was under warranty, eh? I got a helmet at an auction for $5, in the box, that's another place to get stuff cheap. Being in North Dakota, you might see if you can scrounge around for an old 4-door of some sort - 49-54 Chevy is a good one - that you could cut up and part out on eBay, then scrap the carcass. That would probably more than pay for a welder. No place to put it? Research, figure out what you can sell, and cut it all apart in 24 hours. But you can sell one of those down to a bare frame just about.
i worked part time at a shop for free and got some car "help" from the guys there.learned tons! made friends i still have today
Look man, you put that off topic shit in your sig, so you invited it. First thing I will say is no society every advances when they carry grudges of past generations. Ever hear of the Hatfields and McCoys? So go ahead and flaunt your hate, just don't be suprised when some look down on ya like an ignorant hillbilly cause of it. Second, do you realize that other people build shine too? And work real fuckin hard at it? Just cause you're mired in rust does not give you a right to knock down others who've been at it harder and longer. Again, you're welcome to whatever attitude you want, just don't be suprised when it causes doors to close in your face. Talented mentors can spot a closed mind from a mile off.
So your offered a free welder and 50 bucks toward shipping it and.......???If this ain't a BS post, wouldn't you be a fool not to take them up on this. So what gives? Kenagain awesome man.
I'm not gonna be liked for this, but it's what i wished *I* had done. Study like the very dickens and get yourself straight A's in everything. For yours and her sake, ALWAYS wear a rubber. Nothing will screw up your hopes and dreams like an unplanned pregnancy. Get yourself into the military and move up as fast as possible. 20 years and out (I think), and you are really set. Jobs open up for ex-military like no other folk. Save all you can, and buy a house when you are out and can comfortably afford it. Get married later than 19 years old. Establish good credit, and never buy on credit. Exceptions are the daily driver (but do NOT overbuy just to impress) and a home. 15 year mortgage is the goal. You see, toys are great, but retiring before you're 85 is even better. Shit happens to all of us (blown economy, anyone?? Ponzi schemes eating billions, etc. etc.), but having money in the bank will help get you through even the toughest times. This is what your parents are trying to teach you, and if mine had lived, they would have tried to teach me the same. Cars are cool, but being broke because of cars is decidedly not cool. Cosmo
He said earlier in post 41, he the thanked us for the offer but he got A mig from his grandmothers husbands welding truck. And he will try to clean it up to use it...ghost
cosmo<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_4108445", true); </SCRIPT> Great reply, At my age I hear ya LOUD and CLEAR, Only wish that I had that insight thirty years ago , I would be way farther ahead of the game then I am now..... Very sound advise on every point ! Well said...
Ive seriously bought a welder 350 in cash to my Grandma's husband. No bullshit. And if you have a problem with my sig. Thats your problem. Dont flame me for feeling my own pride. Scars run deep no matter what generation I'm from. If you have a problem with that move to Canada or better yet. Save your fingers and dont even type the words. I dont care if you dont like the second part of my sig. Its my opinion. I will remove it because I realise that it may offend. I was just stating the hard work that goes into a car. You may think I havent built yet but I have. My Grandad and I redid the bodywork and engine on his '58 Ford Farm truck. I have some expierience (some). In short. Mind your own damn business. Thanks, Fatty
SON, Whats eatin at ya. There was no here that doubted ya. You Brought that on yourself. But Maybe your self, is that why you need to tell us (SEriously/No Bullshitt). Respect and PRIDE is somthing that is earned and you, Im sure have done alot that you are proud of. And rightly so. You are young, I'm 49 and don't know or care to know the whole thing with Jane. So if it was your intent to flame you pride with that Signature I hope you know all the facts because What I Do know is that unless you lived it. Its really hard to know what all went on back then. I can tell you I'M damn proud to be a AMERICAN because we have guys here in the U.S.A. that are not afraid of putting out there, just to help another Country. Thats what this Web site is about Helping others in a commen interest. There are very few on here that are going to mind their own Business. WE ALL think you a good kid because you chose to spend time on our Hobby apposed to staying in playing games on X BOX. So why dont you make us all proud of you and UPLOAD (Something alot of us have trouble with) some PICs of some of the fine things you will be working on. Just remember we all think you are aGOOD KID and if we wanted to catch some lip we could get that from the old lady.
There are STILL people pissy about the Hatfield/McCoy thing. The last name Hatfield is like Smith in this damn state.
Help me out, how do I upload a pic of vehicles. Ill show my fury III (sorry, its 70s) and the truck I plan on working on this winter. There werent any pictures of the '58 cause my grandma sold it after my grandpa died.
