my wife just told me about a new thing johnny lightning has going on...apparently they are looking for people to send in photos of their cars for possible use in the new line that they are coming out with.... there is no pay for this, other than a case (12 cars) of your car should they make it. just thought that it would be cool to see some hambers and hamb-minded cars being produced. the link is below, check it out. for the small effort it would take, seeing a case of diecast versions of your car would seem worth it!!! maybe someone could talk to the folks atjohnny lightning about doing a HAMB line of cars!!! anyways, here's the link....back to your regularly scheduled program. http://www.playingmantis.com/jl/your_car_star.php?articleid=550
Wow, I know a guy that works with Muscle Machines (like JL) once in while, and he took like 108 pics of my coupe...Hmmmm?
As much as we would like to see Esnacky's Rivi and the Bleedster in collectible form, I feel that Playing Mantis is really being tight here.....this company has money! They dusted off the old Aurora monster model molds from the '60's and made a killing....they are into cars, figures, etc.....12 cars is nothing to them....a really cool concept, but more compensation is in order....
From the site: [ QUOTE ] ! If you (or a friend) own a car that Johnny Lightning makes in scale, we’re interested in... [/ QUOTE ] Sounds like "special paint and packaging" on cars that they already have tooled. Can't they figure out their own paint schemes ?
Hey Guy I work for a Toy Company, I can chime in on the "pay" bascially If you feel you should get paid for them using your ride- present it to Hot Wheels. Big companies only pay royalties for major liceses or something this is waaaay cool? I not knocking anyone. If they'd offer name recognition, like First/last name on package then I think that is is award enough. Let alone you 'll probably get a case. Also not the fact that if they have made a car the is the same model or they don't have the same wheels, they probably won't make it either. It sound like they are only doing decos for their existing tools. Here is my excluse "Von Drunk" die cast series. Higg's rig made my first series
Good points all around... My opinion is, your name on the package doesn't pay the bills....Even House can't unload all those $200. coop fonts. Using existing molds has always been the cheapest method in the toy industry to produce a "new" item, and adding new paint schemes and wheel decals will ensure placement in WalMart and Toy R Us for the new season.... I'm just suggesting that if a HAMB member does this, get something out of it... Abelugo....I work and have worked in the past for toy companies as well..... How is the figure you posted previously working out? Any release date?
I nominate El Mosquito, even though it no longer exists. It was the most reviled/controversial car on the HAMB.
Abelugo....wasn't the character or line called "Rod Benders"? I think you posted it during a weekly art show, as a pencil concept sketch? It was a monster in a drag suit inside a tire...drilled shifter sticking out? Looked great!
I dunno if they are just recycling old moulds with new paint or not. If that's the case I won't buy 'em unless they do something special, like how many of the same model does a guy really need painted different colours? Besides, usually the toy companies just add*****py looking graphics that take a bit of effort to remove to make an existing model look different. However, on the other hand, they may just be doing the right thing and creating some genuinely fresh models, god knows we need them. A case in point is a recent Johnny Lightning purchase I made, which included a certain '36 5 window coupe that features a unique chop and grille treatment. The car is nicely detailed and even painted the same colour as the original. Sure they'll probably reissue that car with different paint later on and the mould has been made in such a way they could even change the roof and maybe make it a 3 window or roadster, but reality is, they've actually created a model from scratch that looks just like the real car, not an existing model tarted up to appear to look like the real one. Another case in point is the Revell Rat Rods series, all new and unique models so far. And as for being paid a huge royalty for letting them use your car, is that really why we are doing what we do with old cars? To get paid? Dunno about you, but that's not the motiivation for this little black duck, I'd let 'em use my car in a heartbeat, but then I already have a die cast model of pretty much every car I ever owned. If nobody makes it, I do what the model car companies do, modify an existing model.
I can't remember all the details but a guy did that quite a few years ago with Hotwheels. As I recall it was a white 40 Ford sedan, and the guy had to order 10,000 copies.
Ace, that project completely morfed info another product. but I'm still keeeping that in my pocket. I'm sure everyone else will love what it turned into.
[ QUOTE ] I dunno if they are just recycling old moulds with new paint or not. If that's the case I won't buy 'em unless they do something special, [/ QUOTE ] .......that's the drill. I have a friend whose car they did this with. They DID use the photo of his vehicle in the packaging and somewhat replicated his paint scheme, but not the custom body work on his car. They had promised him a CASE of the cars and he wound up having to fight to get a dozen of them........... He wanted to give them to friends. I got one!
