History Your Favorite 49-52 Chevrolet

I have 3- Larry Ernst Bel Air (2nd version), Jesus Valencia's Drag N' Shop-built coupe, and Watson't Grapevine (1st version)

 

I'm pretty sure this one was chopped by Anthony Castaneda...remember seeing it in OC a lot.

 

yes anthony chopped it and tommy did the frame victor and long haired alex did the body work...

 

As mentioned, it was built by Deacons member Kyle Phillips of La Mesa. I think it was around 1998 when he started with a 1949 DeLuxe Coupe, shaved and chopped it and painted it in the original color oxford maroon. The tuck'n roll interior in black and white vinyl was made by Roger D. Starkey. I bought it from Kyle 2 years ago and brought it to Switzerland.

Hey Lucky,thanks for posting pics of mine and the compliments.I like the way yours is done too.There are so many nice Chevy's done.I have the magazine article of the Earnst car in my garage.Then,I look at mine.Does anyone on the East remember the Richie Zadroga 51?.The car was from Jersey City.

 

Thanks too, kkoacolonel. Your car is cool. Although I dig wild, chopped Full Customs, it's the Mild Customs that pull me in at Car Shows. Especially when they're finished looking like a car that someone in the 50's and early 60's would've driven around town in on a daily basis.

 

Any more pics in any form on this "Japanese" custom?

This is one of the best threads in a while.I think that the 49-52s are overlooked and it's pretty obvious they look good about any way you go with them,from mild to radical.

 

Larry Watson's Grapevine hands down is my 1st choice. Scott Sullivan's tin wagon, 2nd, and a Boyd built fastback 4 dr. 3rd choice. Sorry, no pictures.

 

I need to find the mag. there is a picture of a chopped 4 door with 54 chevy taillights just like this one.

oh yeah? was it sold to someone in japan then? because i got this picture from a guy named custom justine myspace page, a builder in japan

 

one of takimoto's friends bought it was in long beach for a while and then shipped to japan.my buddy didnt even get that much for it either

 

if he is saying he built it its not true. this chevy is well known down here in orange county..

 

I don't know a thing about this car, and I'm usually not crazy about cars that are this low, but this car caught my attention recently. Subtle as hell...and pretty much requires gun-barrel-straight panels...but I dig the understatement of the thing...

That looks like the car that GoodGuys used on the Tshirt for the first meet in Hershey,Pa.

I've owned mine since I was 17.That was 25 years ago.Still own it.

 

oh ok that makes sense, no i dont even know the guy hes just a friend on myspace, he has alot of nice cars on his page and i just assumed he may have built it, bad ass car nonetheless
