My first was a 1955 chevy 1500 pickup. It had a 235 with an offy intake and 2 one barrels, split manifold and a three on the tree. I sold it in 89 and have regretted it ever since. My next truck was a 67 chevy shortbox that I bougjt in 90 and I still have it. Jim
1970 VW with early bumpers. I painted it bright yellow and put salt flat discs on it. It had a 2020cc with a built trans. It ran low 13's at O.C.I.R. I got it in 1981 when I was a senior in high school. Ah, the good ol' days!!
'35 Olds 4 door 6 ... torched front springs, front bumper mounted upside down, 1 straight pipe, 4 foot shift lever, reversed Buick wheels on the back with a bald Firestone 8.20 on the right side and a near new Atlas 7.60 on the other. Ran great under 45 mph, any faster, it stuck a valve open, then we had to park until we heard it "ping" closed ... used to drive it really slow down the sidewalk in front of the high school and scoop up chicks with all 4 backwards doors ... traded it for a '50 Olds 88 4 door with a dozen burnt valves ... 302
'69 Beetle in 1997. Not stock(not by a long shot). Still have it too, and it was my January commuter(WI collector tabs on the '55 Ply mean no driving in january)
first operable car I owned and learned to drive on was a 1959 Anglia 100e.My dad gave it to me at 12 when he retired it as his daily driver. This car was in perfect condition body wise but very tired mechanicly. We live in an area of abandoned rail road beds and unused dirt roads so i could drive all day without bothering anybody or getting in trouble.
My first car was my Chevro-legs! Took me everywhere and great on gas too. No. rReally, it was a big, nasty, late seventies Mercury four door that granny gave me. HAHA, what a good memory! Had 38,000 or so original miles and hauled some ass! I was fourteen and did 115 MPH in that tub of shit while the folks were out of town. Nearly crashed that bitch. That fucking car was clean though!
78 malibu landau 2dr, in about 1994 or so. Light blue with a light blue interior. Bought it for $300, pretty much everything I had to my name. It had a locked up low-milage 350, that's pretty much what I bought it for. I broke it lose with a breaker bar and WD-40. I did so much work to that thing... cleaned it up, fixed a bunch of stuff that was wrong. Ran great, very strong, but was rusty, an fell apart very quickly. It was never legal, I ran it up and down the hollow I lived in for fun. I saved up for a while, and bought a 79 malibu, and put the 350 in it. Motor still runs great to this day. My brother bought that car, i'm going to get it back soon. Love those malibus.
my first was a truck 46 chevy with the oil slinger crankshaft.Gas tank was under the seat and leaked out the top when full witch wasent often.Wet soap applied often would help leak and fume problem for day or two.Rod got to knocking and i tore apart and replaced the one loose babbet rod with borred tools.Crank was out of round and new rod knocked {15 year old no exp. mechanicking]Traded it off for 4 dr. 55 chev but thats another story.
41 Ford Tudor Sedan Super Deluxe bought in 1959. I had it restored original by 1961 and in late 62 I installed a 331 Hemi. It was a lot fun in high school. It is still is sitting in my garage and as soon as I retire I'm going to freshen it up.
'64 VW Notchback. Rebuilt everything and it hauled ass, but did the lamest / confused 80's graphics job on the side you could imagine. But then again, I did have hairstyles ranging from the killer "minitrucker style" mullet to the mohawk to match it during those years... Ah, the joy of learning who you are. -scott noteboom
1960 F100 still have everything but the motor and tranny. my dad and i started redoing it when i was 15 and found out no one makes patch panels and that we suck at making compound curve patch panels. the motor/tranny lives in a restored 61 falcon and the rear end is going under my next project. i cant wait till i find and can afford another so i can combine the 2.
'66 Ford Anglia "Angle box", at age 16-19yrs ago-yep it was blue, yep I used to wear little round "Lennon" style glasses and yes I had many attempts to get it airbourne!-I recon that woman that wrote Harry Potter got the idea from me .They were called "Angle boxe's" because of their boxy look and reverse angled rear windscreen.
'70 VW Squareback. It was in '86 but I couldn't drive it 'til a year later 'cause I got my first ticket before I even had a license. It ended up bein' flat black but don't hold it against me. It was the eighties so it wasn't cool yet. Olson
I drove at age 16 a 55 chevy 2dr. post white top over that crap light brown color some had...6 cyl. 3 on the tree...ran it to death , blew the engine then put a 265 V8 in it...This 55 was really my dads work car at first that I sorta took over from him...Sooo....Really my own first car in the year 1967 was a 60 chevy 2 dr. Biscayne 6 cyl. 3 on the tree, charcoal gray with silver + gray interior...It was a low milege car that had belonged to a old man...It looked very much like the one I have now...I ran it to death also blew that 6 then dropped in a healthy 327 4 barrel...I had it repainted a silver metalic...For wheels I was running what we called chrome steel astros 14''...I just couldn't keep my foot out of that 327... One summer day with a friend riding shotgun I was really on it in town when a V W van pulled in front of me and I hit the van and knocked the van over on its side and demolished the 60...It was a good thing that there was only minor injuries to someone in the van...I still have pics of that 60 before and after the crash...I've owned 6 different 60's over the years and the one I have now I've owned twice.....
A navy blue 49' Ford 2 door sedan with a flathead V-8, "3 on the tree" overdrive tranny & a 4:11 rearend. Ran the absolute crap out of it, and 41 years and 40+ vehicles later, I'm now piloting an old school Hot Rod! ( on my avatar ) Still like my Roadster the best! Glad you asked! .....The man who goes through life with one eye on the past, and the other eye on the future, looks at today cockeyed.
1982 - been working 5 years & 3 weeks prior to my 16th, I bought a '68 Mustang w/351W, Toploader & 9" - it had a super heavy clutch & was a bear to drive for a relatively new stick driver...but it was pretty quick! It got gears, a cam, carb, & nitrous! Ran mid 13s w/o nitrous & traction! Never made a timed run with the nitrous Sadly, a combination of wet roads & louse S.Fla drivers (also uninsured) totaled it after about 3 years... The engine, however, lives on - it got stroked to 374" & dropped into my '51 F1 Panel truck a couple years later & swapped for a stock 351W when I sold it. The engine currently lives in an '83 Mustang that is mainly a rolling collection of parts... ...it still runs very strong though! Wish I still had my first car...parted it out instead. Still a few knick-knacks from it floating around...
78 Malibu 2dr, got it for $500 when i was 14, very clean and straight. 2 weeks after i got my license i was side swiped and pushed over a curb, bent the frame and blew apart the rear diff. i miss that car!
I had a '39 Ford Standard Coupe, black primer; Moon aluminum disks, 3 or 4 inch sackles to drop the front, 600x16/760x16s. LOL had a 2" elbow and pipe plug brazed to the exhaust pipe for a cut-out. Stock flathead. loved that car. ...... Oh bought it for $125.00 someday i'll scan the pic and post it.
It was a '57 Chevy 210 2 door sedan that I bought when I was 15 for $130; actually, it was $150, but the guy I bought it from guaranteed that the battery was good and when it died the next day, he refunded me $20! It was a 6 cylinder 3 speed. I rebuilt the brakes, tuned it up, and primered the entire vehicle with spray cans. Eventually, my cousin in PA took pity on me and told me if I drove it to his place (275 mile trip) during summer vacation, he'd help me get it straightened out and painted. I made it there and we sanded, filled, sanded, filled, sanded, and dumped together dark blue and silver until it looked good to us and paid a body man up the street $20 to lay on the top coat(in 1976). It actually looked good when we were done--at least it looked better than most of what my peers were parking in front of the school. I picked up a nice set of chrome reverse rims that fall, and it looked like an extra from American Graffiti.
Mine was a '29 2door sedan . Used to take the license plates off a buddies 60 ford , put um on the "A" and drive all over town. Never did get busted. Back in '66 I traded it and some cash for the '38 coupe that I still have.
A 53 Pontiac Chieftan 4 door for 6 bucks. I was 14 and got it running with those transparent red spark plug wires, Cal Custom chrome coil cover and Cherry Bomb muffler...LOL. I about went broke puttin those chrome acorn bolt covers on the headbolts on that straight eight. I painted the engine Pontiac green or turqoiuse whatever that color is......damn thing looked good. No hubcaps, black wheels w/chrome spiders. Ran like a bat out of hell till I broke the rings in it then it smoked like a freight train. Next up was a 55 Chevy 210 2 door a guy GAVE me! Kept that thing all through high school and lost it in a divorce...(the Bitch).
My dad bought this P/U in for me in '61 to learn how to work on cars. I've still got it and I'm still learning.
My first was a 62 Fairlane. Pulled the 221 and put in a 289/C4. It's followed me around for nearly 19 years waiting patiently for it's turn to be redone.
29 ford coupe [I was 14] that never got home. Was a gift from one of my dad's old school buddys. First car I got home was a 50 ford crestliner 2 door sedan. Got it for $50 the day I turned 16 in the next town and my dad and I towed it 23 miles home at the end of a tow chain, using the family 55 Olds..I built a 53 Merc motor for it with my dad's help...ran great with offy intake and a 55 Buick Rochester carby, headers, home-done port and relieve job with shaved heads and chrome headbolt covers... Wish I'd kept it but before I even turned 17, I wanted something older and cooler....bought a cherry-pie 41 Ford for $24 with a siezed flathead and swapped the merc into it.
Still got mine! 57 chevy wagon w/delivery panels. 331 sbc,3sp stick,4.11's $450 in 75 age 15. Have broken every piece of the driveline at least once. Currently collecting dust but a gas tank and battery would bring it back to life. Third in line of current projects.
the year 1957, the car 41 chev coupe lowered in the back skirts, dual antennas, only had one spot light (hated that) a real light mint green, custom interior, my uncle was an upholsterer sold me the car for 50 bucks. never was happy with my first car, sure would love it now. I hated the six with that vaccume shift (couldn't speed shift) it was 40 years before I bought another six haha I've owned over 125 car since then and very have been chevys because of that first car.
When I turned 16, I paid $50 for a rusted 50 Ford Business Coupe, but it ran. The insurance cost $250. It had a columbia OD, that was great. I ended up replacing the rusted panels, adding shaved heads, 2 duece manifold and a 3.4 race cam. These parts were given to me by my girlfriends cousin. I had a blast with that car.
In 1975, a 64 Tbird. Was gift from my uncle, was given to him, he didn't want it. Turquois metallic with white vinyl top. I detailed the shit out of it and it still looked like an old man's car. Sold it 3 months later and pieced together 2 69 Camaros to make 1 wonderful car. Now I fuckin hate Camaros as that was the 1st of many. My last Camaro...10.32 @ 129.8mph, 10.5 tires and 3545#, no NOS. Not too shabby but still, done with that shit.
