1931 Model A Ford Std. Coupe. The car my Grandfather drove to High School, to California from upstate NY on a $50.00 bet (and dragraced with a 4 banger), and restored to win the Natl. First Prize. You know, just a POS.
54 Studebaker Champion. I'm 47 so it was an old car when I got it at 16. Served my purposes but I wish I hadn't ruined it Jim
Mine was a 1965 Malibu SS (283 w/powerglide). Dad bought it for me from the original owner. My girlfriend totalled it later, I never could tell Dad that I wasn't the one driving. I moved on from there to a '72 Javelin. And horse-traded cars for years, averaging two to three cars a year before settling down. Now I'm sentimental and want to keep everything that I bring home.
'57 chevy more door, rotted floors, sweet running 283, dead cast iron PG. Towed it home, learned a lot with it but never drove it. Number 2, '57 chevy 2 door belair. solid rust free Cal. car pieced it together. It ran/drove but was never registered and legal. It was sold to an Unlce who still has it. Number 3, another more door '57. This one was a beater driver that I used in high school. These along with a 63 chevy pick up got me through the mid 80's.
1948 chevy tudor, got it in eight grade then when i got my licence a year ago i got a 64 galaxie hard top.
'79 volvo stationwagon, painted school bus yellow. Bent it in half, broke the rear axle in two, split the tranny, tore off 3 wheels and the right front A arm assembly...and left the whole mess in some old ladies front yard. walked away.
'64 corvair monza; 110 horse; 4-sp w/ bucket seats. i was 17 and the year was 1968. i thought it was pretty cool at the time. would like to have it back if it were still in the shape it was then.
Back in 52 my first car was a 37 chevy coupe, than a 41 ford coupe, a 48 ford rag top, a50 Olds. standard shift. I'm still driving a 37 Terraplane, haven't made much progress.
my first car is a 35 ford pick up. Finally starting to work on it to get it running. Can't wait to get it on the road
My first car was a 1964 El Camino primered with 3 or 4 colors. Converted it to disk brakes electric seats. Parents was going to get it painted for graduation, but a lady ran a red light and totaled it. It was a 283 power pak 3 speed. It was 1985.
First one: 60 Renault Dauphine in 1967 for $37.50 (towing fees from I-87) Dropped one wheel into a pothole in 1969. Car kept going but right front wheel was at a weird angle! Junked soon after. Second: '57 Belair 2dr HT for $55 from Police auction in 1969. Eventually got a vette 283. Sold in 1971 for $500. Third: '65 Corvair in 1971. Swapped 350 into the rear. Scrapped 1974. Fourth: '69 RS Camaro in 1973. Still have it. Got my roadster body in 1967. Built it in 1976. Still going strong.
1971 Ford Torino. 302's timing chain broke, put in a 351W. Ran Gunk through the engine and locked up the oil pump, Put another built one in, with a shift kit, duals, air shocks and Cragar Super Trick wheels. It was loud, yellow, and had a CB radio, and was also still slow. This was from 1997-2002, not the 70s, believe it or not. Current owner drives it daily - over 200K miles on the car, more than likely.
you guys suck, didn't anyone else have a Toyota ?? mid to late 80's after I got off my old 73 Honda Cb175 I took a step up (year right) into a 71 Corolla, promptly rolled it but fixed it up and drove it for a couple of years...... Bought my EK Holden when I was 19 a couple of years after that and still have it 18 odd years later !! Best one I know is a friend of mine bought his 1st car a 59 Cad Coupe at age 18 again 20 odd years ago, that in N.Z. is pretty damn impressive !!
the first car i ever purchased was my current project: 1931 model A pick up. Bought it when i was 18, and was more than happy to ride the bus for the next couple years until i could afford a daily driver.
When I was 14, I had a 84 shit brown chrysler lazer turbo, simultaineously had a white on black 67 chevelle 327 4 speed. $1900 in both. I worked since I was 12, saving for a car. Totaled the Lazer, My dad sold the chevelle. we don't talk.
my first vehicle is still my current daily driver, about ten paint schemes later though (this was in '95): the "LEGO" truck as it was called by classmates........
I had a '70 Ford Maverick with a 200 and a three on the tree, purchased when I was 15. I eventually replaced the interior with black vinyl, rebuilt the front end and brakes, replaced the hood and trunk lid with Grabber parts, and painted it (Dad called the color "refrigerator white" )with a friend's help. Just when I got everything to quit leaking and making noise, I traded it in on something newer. It was unbelievably reliable, and tough as nails. I beat that little engine mercilessly, and it never failed me. It never left me on the side of the road. It got me through high school and 2 years of college. It never was a cool car. My friends with their Camaros and Firebirds constantly made fun of it, but I still miss it 20 years after I sold it. I would not mind having another. My Maverick was the same color...only different. Gold, brown, yellow, green, tan, and grey primer! Your first car is what I "moved up" to. My daily driver is an '86 C10. Slonaker
First car, 69 Olds 442, orig. 400 w/ turbo 400, 3:70 gear, fast. First truck, 68 Dodge, 318, painted w/ 4" brush. .
61 Chrysler with over 100 thousand on it. 361 with a burnt valve. Sounded like a john deere popper. Bought a 62 Chrysler in 69 for $700. Was a Neuport. The 300 H standing next to it was "too much car" my dad said. They wanted $900 for it. I went everywhere in that 62. Courted the wife, and had it till we got married in 73. Gave it to my little Brother who finished it off. Would like to have it back or any 62 for that matter. Got some pictures around here somewhere... Best to all VonDad
72 Chevy Nova, started w/ 6 banger and power glide that lasted about 2 months, then went with a healthy 400 and turbo 350
'65 Pontiac Catalina 4 door post. I named it the PowerSlave. It had a 389 2bbl high compression (10.5:1) motor with a turbo 400 w/3:55 posi rear. That car was extremely fast. I raced that beast on the backroads quite a bit and never lost. Used to have quarter barrell taped in the trunk with the spout thru the speaker hole most of the time. I wish I could find another 65 Cat like that. I just love the styling of those mid '60's pontiacs.
Wow---first car----1972--58 chevy 2 door sedan--old guy had it parked behide his house--hadn't driven it in a couple of years--he couldn't see anymore--we haggled for a while and settled on $100---came back the next day to drive it home---battery no good--go to Sears and by a battery--$9.99!---old man give me $20 bucks back for my trouble---drove the piss outta that car for 2 years---sold it for $500---wish i hadn't!
You can't beat a 58 chevy! I got mine years ago and love it to death. But this was my first car in high school, class of 89!
I was lucky. 1965 17 years old,I buy a baby blue 1957 Bel-Air 2dr. hardtop for $250 in perfect shape. The old man who owned it took amazing care of the car. Man, that car was a girl magnet. I had the ass end jacked up with bigger tires ;wide whites all around and baby moons on black wheels. Dual glas packs. The only problem was that it was an automatic. I blew the tranny after about six months of abuse, didn't know how to convert it to a stick,so I traded it in on a , get this.... 1962 Corvair !!!!!! The stupid things you do as a kid.
