my first car was a (originally white) 64 impala ss,...i wanted that car since i was 12,...and the old lady that owned it, let me pull her weeds, and rake the front and back yard, and pick up her dog shit for like 3 yrs,..(i also helped her with her household projects) and when i turned 15 she gave it to me, i had worked the car off.
she couldnt understand why i didnt want that orange camaro she had. her intention was to give me the camaro, but i had to have the impala...i didnt like the orange color and i thought Yenko was her last name,..i couldnt figure out why her and her deceased husband would put their last name all over the car,...lol...(needless to say i knew nothing about camaros at the time)
so i got the impala from here and turned it into a lowrider ( i know i know).....the funniest part of this story is i thought nothing of this whole deal till a couple of years ago when i was going through some old pictures i had of my 64 impala and sure as fuck (she lived across the street) there is that GODDAMN camaro in the backround! and i said to myself " YOU STUUUUPID MOTHER FUCKER!!" COMPLETELY ORIGINAL YENKO CAMARO WITH LESS THAN 50K ORIGINAL MILES!!! both cars were under 50k miles, she didnt drive and her husband had passed a long time ago.....i just didnt like the cars then....but i guess that was opportunity knockin on my door, and i didnt answere..lol.

    god i hate myself

  10. I bought my first car when I was 16 back in 1966. It was a Salmon & White 57 Ford Retracable Hardtop - 312, auto. I bought it from my brother for $150 . He bought it from the local Ford Dealer as a trade in from the original owner. At the time, the car was only 9 years old but was rusty in all the usual places. I repaired it myself and repainted it brown and tan. I got new carpet out of a 58 Ford in a local junkyard and put new seat covers from Sears on it. I found a complete T-Bird 2x4 set up for it at another junkyard and put that on. I later sold it for a whopping $85. One of the few cars I have ever lost money selling.
My second car was a 53 Chevy BA Hardtop and my third car was the other one in the picture, a 50 Mercury Coupe. I bought it from the 1st owner's son in 1970 for $200 with 46,000 miles on it. It came with a Fulton visor, fender skirts, and overdrive. I sold it through Hemmings to a guy in Ohio for $800 in 1972 and thought I was doing great. He restored it and I saw it listed later in Hemmings for sale but have since lost track of it. I have the 1972 Hemmings I listed it in. Since then, I would guess I have owned close to 200 cars/trucks.

First car was a 69 SS El Camino. Big block 4 speed car. Paid $250 for it in 1992. My dads was a 32 Ford he paid $50 bucks for in 1959. We still have both of them. Think he got the better deal though.:D

Here's mine; a 1941 Plymouth P12 Special Deluxe Sedan. Nothin' fancy, but I was 16 and learned a lot from it. I got it for my birthday and took it on a little too gung ho, I guess. Instead of getting it running and driving it as is, I planned to tear it down and reassemble it after cleaning it up. I had a great time figuring out how everything went together, mechanically and physically as I disassembled and assessed what was needed to make her the bitchinest 4-door Kustom ever. With school, no really good place to work on it (where you see it was my workspace), a short Maine Summer and no welding skills at the time, my plans failed. I did however get it running and back and forth around the yard a bit. It was actually pretty damn clean body-wise for being around here. I ended up selling it to another kid who kept going with it. He took the body off and blasted it and redid the frame, etc., or so I was told. I never saw it again... Even though it wasn't a terribly desirable starting point for most, I'd love to have it back and do what I wanted to then, with what I know now... ah...

    Jonny

ps- at least I have my first HOT ROD and I'm NOT letting it go!

My first old car...a 1965 Mercedes 220Sb...we didn´t really know what scallops are...because we never saw some before...so here is what came out...but it was okay to have fun with.on the first car show I was, the moderator said to me: what are you doing the whole day...beside of taking drugs and paint cars...hahaha...later I repainted it completely in primer black. ;)
The interior was "redone" with red old curtains from my grandma...it was the only car I ever had, hithchiking girls didn´t want to drive with us... :D

A '54 Chevy, 2-door sedan. I paid $50 for it in 1964. It was a totally stock POS, straight six, 3-on-the-tree. I put a Hurst shifter in it and baby moons and thought I was hot shit!

This is my first REAL car -other than daily drivers. Had it since high school.

Built the damn thing myself and I think I did a pretty good job. Been repainted a slew of times started out as a two toned green and green.

I had 3 when I got my DL in '82.
1966 Nova 6 banger my fathers retired daily driver. He paid $50 for it so he sold it to me for $50. First Saturday night out the freeze plug on the back of the block (bell housing) popped out. That sucked.

1963 Buick Skylark 'vert with blown heads $150. Pretty cool car being in Hawaii and all!
1970 Maverick with a broken upper control arm $50.

Fixed all three. Drove my insurance agent crazy switching the one policy I could afford from car to car.

Had to get rid of all 3 a while after I turned 17 and joined the Army.

1956 Chevy Pickup. Worked like a trojan to make enough money to buy it. My Dad and I worked like trojans to get it like I wanted it.
327 SBC, 3 dueces, 4spd, dropped front axle, boxed frame, reversed shackles and low slung rear suspension. It was a death trap, but FUN! Great memories!!

First one was in '71, it was a 64 1/2 Barracuda 273 hi-po 4-speed. and was painted yellow. Just out of boot camp and at school in Memphis. Drove it for a few months and sold it when I got reassigned. I had gone home on leave and bought a 65 Barracuda Formula S with hi-po 273 and auto. I got to drive it for a month. The guy I bought it from also had a Shelby GT 350 for sale for $1000, if I remember right. I paid $600 for the Barracuda. Which my parents sold on me when I was stationed in Itlaly.

1956(?) Hillman Minx, bought in '62 in a field for $25.
Me and my friends pushed it a couple miles on a Saturday into my driveway. Had some older guys (I was 11) come over and start teaching me. got it running in about a week. Painted it with rattle cans. Total in car about $40. Sold it to my friends brother for $100.....the sickness had begun!

67 Mustang. A real POS but you couldn't tell me that then. I had Gabriel Hijacker air shocks in the back, along with shackles that raised the rear up high enough to bolt on a pair of M50's in the back.

I put a hooker headers decal in the back window, even though the anemic little 2 barrel 289 still had the stock single exhaust on it.

I sold it after it blew a head gasket and bought a 63 Chevy II

  26. 62 Mercury Comet... She was awesome... black, white and red interior... she was MINT... Had so many good times in her... learned to drive and grew up in her... I cried when I had to sell her... I still look for 62 comets wishin I can buy one...

1975 Buick Century, had a 231 with shot cylinder, a tranny on its last legs, no muffler, didn't ever get going 75mph on the interstate, and was rusting to pieces. It had two doors though. Generally, just a really great, fun first car.

1982 Chevy Monza...shot the back window out with a bb gun, my dad's dog soon moved in and made it a personal dog house. 10 years later when I went to college I had to kick the dog out and get it running because taking the bus well a Monza is better. Tell me that did not come back to kick my ass.
