in 1962 a 1939 Ford DeLuxe Coupe. Had an Olds Rocket engine with 3 - 2's and the '39 trans. It was driveable but not licnnsed, I paid $300. I couldn't afford the full fendered '32 3 window, licensed and on the street in NJ, that he was selling for $700. Took the Olds out and put in a small block Chevy and a 4 speed.
66 valiant 2 door w/ a 225 /6. Bought it from a tweeker for $440. It had dirty underwear in the trunk. Tito
mine was a 1980 chevy malibu with a sb400 worked to da nutz and an nice turbo 350 with all the bells and whistles and a 2.87 posi. primer gray and plain rallys which i changed eventually to cragars with 15x6 in the front and 15x 10 out back. with police spotlights on her. i used to love beatin brand new vettes with her. on the strip and the highway.....
My first was a 1987 Dodge Dakota in 2004. Still drive it everyday. 2.2 4cyl is the slowest thing on the road even with a 5 spd does a blistering 20.3 sec @63 mph in the quarter. Super clean original paint hope to drop a 360 in it and keep it forever but my 53 dodge is taken first priorty to dump all my money into.
Mine was a 1959 El Camino rusted badly in 88' before I turned 15, 235 6, 3 speed on the floor from my grand father. Late I got a 350 and a better body. And it was flat black with reverse crome wheels.
First car was this '51 Vicky that I tried to customize in my driveway in 1960 when I was 16 (guess that tells you something about my age ). You can read more about it: HERE I bought the pickup I drive now in 1976 and built my house with it. There is more: HERE c ya, Sum
'39 Ford sedan, ainted it orange with yellow interier ,stock trany and rear, KILLER 3/8 x 3/8 flat head with 4oour two's. alumheads wilco mag. '40 Studabaker tail lights, sold it for $450, in 1962 to buy '58 Chevy with 348, makes me sick every time I think about it. Only good thing is that I sold "58 and bought 1962 Bubble top BelAir.................still got that one
1968 Chevelle SS396 396ci/375hp L-78,pops was a Ohio State Trooper and he hated that car with a passion...lol. Damn some of the cool rides I passed up because I wanted a musclecar. One was a 51 Ford half-ton with a flat head 8 for 300 bucks that looked like brand new.
I worked my ass off on a fruit and vegetable farm, the summer after my 16th birthday, to earn enough money for a '54 Chev that the local Chevy dealer had. And, it just happens to be the same car that's sitting in my garage right now. Some 12 years later.
I had a 51 Chevy 3/4 ton, long bed, eight lug truck given to me when I was 16. When I was 18 I bought my first car, a 65 Chevelle, paid 300.00 and towed it home. Never even registered it, it never made it to the street. I did get to drive it a couple of times, just not legally. I have had 50 plus cars since.
Say I have had a place on my web site for some time for rodders first cars: HERE If any of you want yours added send me a picture along with some text. c ya, Sum
56 chevy bel air, in 1963, 265 automatic. Stayed up all night waxing it so i could drive it to school the next day. Mark
First car I bought was a '62 VW Beetle when I was 14, never got it on the road as it had sat through 10+ years of NE winters without moving and was a rusted solid drivetrain surrounded by a disintegrating body. First car I bought and actually drove was a '70 Chevelle when I was 16. Was an odd shade ofr blueish-purple (last owner combined all the various cans of blue-ish car paints he had and shot the car with the result). Had a soluid 350 and was a pretty decent runner. Sold it when I was in college to another 16yr old kid for his first car.
Traded a wooden row boat that my dad and I built for this car when I was 15. It ran great, bone stock 31 model A Ford. (photo taken in 1961)
'66 chevy short wide truck. bought it out of some guys pasture put gas in it jumped it off and drove it 18 miles home. three on the tree straight 6. it was a great mailboxin' truck. couldn't tear it up. tried to blow the motor up so i could get a v8. dad said if it runs dont f with it.
1961 Corvair 2 door purchased for 200 bucks, motor out of a wagon, modified to fit 40 bucks.. a year of driving it and then rolled it doing 50 something on an off-ramp. Dad still has the pieces in his yard some 12 years later....
29 Dodge, four door Sedan, I was 16 and found it in the river bed. My brother and I plus my Freind Noel spent a couple of day's digging it out and hauling it to the house only to have the old man make me get rid of it later on. I was all starie eyed over it, every time I see one I get goose bumps. That was in in 1964.
1960 VW bug. Had a blown engine. Paid $75.00. Went on to rebuild and Hot Rod it. Headers 2bbl etc....
I was looking for a bathtub Nash or a stepdown Hudson but since none were available at the time I bought this 1953 Dodge Coronet with a 241 Hemi and the infamous Gyro-Torque semi automatic transmission. You read that correctly, SEMI-AUTOMATIC. It took some mental adjusting on my part to understand that it was performing as it should. Transitional technology. $200 when I was 16. I wasn't thinking in terms of customising at the time, I just drove it everywhere. My friends had Camaros and Mustangs mainly. In retrospect I can see the potential in it. I sold it to a friend a year later. He pulled the motor apart and then gave up. I think it went to the wrecker. Sad, sad, sad.
1969 Sport Fury...383 auto, and no rear frame rails....at least it was free. 1st real car...69' Dart Custom with a non running 273, but otherwise really nice. Still have that one. Bought it when I was 16 for $1200. That was only 14 years ago.
In 1969 a friend helped me build a 1961 Falcon Sedan Delivery (a retired meter-reader's rig, Battleship gray). The 170 inch 6cyl had spit up its carrots, so we stuffed a 240inch 6 into it. A 300 crank & ported/polished/shaved head, 302 flat-top pistons, Crower 280deg cam, Offy intake w/650CFM 4bbl, and home-made headers. C6 trans. Torque was never an issue. A neighbor had rolled his '67 Mustang, so all that suspension, etc got bolted to the Awsome Possum. That car would devour SBCs all weekend and still get 18MPG in daily use. Yeah, I miss that car. Every day. .
Ok, nobody laugh to loud!! My first was a '78 Ford Granada, 250 6cyl. with a 4 speed. Black with red interior. Got home from vacation at 15 (1984) and dad had it sittin' in the garage for me. He bought the first tank of gas but the rest was up to me!!! Learned how to drive a stick with that car. Also went to the drive-in with my wife on our first date in the 'ol Granada. Still have both!!! The Granada has been "tweeked" a bit.... built 351w, and a 9 inch axle.....blah blah.... I don't plan on gettin' rid of either the wife or the car!!!
