Black 37 Ford 4 door,HUMPBACK no less. Think I was 12 or so. Ran that pos all over the country roads till the blowby got so bad we used a muffler clamp and a piece of flex pipe on the oil filler instead of a breather cap, it kept MOST of the fumes out of the interior. And the seed was planted.

  4. I had a 1987 Pontiac Grand Am 2 door with the 4 cyl and a 5 speed. It was 1992. I put a CD Changer in the trunk and drove the hell out of it.

  5. '54 customline ford tudor sedan w/ dealer installed twin FOMOCO spotlights, factory overdrive and standard 4:11, '56 Merc 312, got it with warped valves at 13(late '64) fixed it up machanically, the paint buffed out and interior was nice, pissed when I had to take the driving test(at 14) in my dad's Chrysler cuz you had to use an automatic! Nice car for a kid, still get a chub when I see a '54 ford, and I'm a died in the wool Chevy guy!

1956 DeSoto Sportsman 2 dr. h-top with the Fireflite Hemi. My aunt used to work at DeSoto and fell in love with it as she watched it go down the line. Found out it was going to Garrity Motors in Hamtramck ( not far from the plant ) and bought it. Beautiful car.... white with gold inserts: the interior was PINK with white leather inserts. Had a gas heater in it that bellowed smoke out from under the hood if you didn't turn off the heater before shutting off the engine. Unfortunately the Detroit winters weren't very kind to the car (rust). That car used to go like stink! Would have been a nice motor for my '32. My brother and I inherited the car in 1964, but he didn't want anything to do with it.... lucky me !!!

1963 Buick Lesabre convertable...worked after school at a feed & seed place since I was 13 to save up the $250.00 I paid for it, I was the only 8th grader with a car.

  10. 1963...16 years old...talked dad into helping me buy my first car, a 37 Ford coupe, for 300 bucks from a guy in the next town up the highway. Stock except a full house flattie and 4:11 butt gears. I have traced it through 10 different owners since through phone calls and such, and each time it changed hands it was traded, not sold. But for some reason it disappears off the radar when it gets to the Portland area. 4 months ago I accidently ran into the guy I bought it from and his son in a bookstore, and they were looking at hot rod books. He must be about 75 now. I thought he was dead! Surprisingly, it was he who recognized me, not the other way around. We got caught up talking cars and it turns out that he and his son are rebuilding his deuce 3 window that he's had for close to 40 years!!! It was a hot rod when he got it. He thought he still had an old registration for that 37 somewhere in his papers that had the ID numbers, so I may try that avenue to see if its still around...would love to have it back.

1951 Ford Four Door...my HAMB name. Bought it from my uncle in 1977 ( I was 16). It's sitting in my driveway as I type this. Doesn't run, hasn't in awhile, but I've hung onto it for all these years and am hoping it will be on the road next summer.

first car I purchased was in 1956, found it on a car lot on union av. in portland ore. I fell in love with a 1941 Cad. mod. 62 convert. I'd saved 150.00 from a paper route and spent it all on the Cad. It was black with awhite top and red&white leather interior. Wish I still had it. Jack

1954 Chevy Belair 4-door sedan, bottle green. I bought it in 1974. 235 powerglide and power steering. Somebody traded it in at the hardware store on a riding lawnmower, and I paid $150.00 for it. Good old car, with a lot of fond memories. Who knows where it it now.

First car I purchased with my own money was my 1991 Honda CRX SI.

Its now a light weight race car with full roll cage, drag slicks, fully built B16/B20 stroked Frankenstien motor.

Im currently selling her or parting her out to fund my old/new 53 Ford F100.

My first car never made it to road worthy and I'm embarrassed to say was rotary powered. 53 (?) 100e Prefect, made into a 2 door, full chassis and cage tubbed. It could pick the front off the ground but my workmanship was so shit I was scared to get into it. The motor was donated by a family friend who built race motors for George Fury in the 80s (Aussy touring car driver) it was a 'left over' from then. Wish I had a pic but pretty much everything I owned pre 2003 was burnt in a bush fire.
The first legal car I had is the 38 in my Avatar, sold it to my parents before the fires so it survived. Hope to get it back some day.
    Doc.
