There's some hilarious stories in this thread! [IMG]

I have only had one speeding ticket. I was 16 years old in 1996 driving my 1966 Galaxie.
The cop might have let me off the hook. I was so scared, I started babbling about how my father used to be a police officer back in the 1970's and how I shouldn't get a ticket because of that... Well, I pretty much talked myself into that ticket.
I had my girlfriend with me too. I'm sure she was impressed.

11 or 12, ticketed for driving my homemade go cart on the almost completed but not open, marina freeway. There was about 50 kids riding motorcycles, minibikes and go carts every weekend on it. The Judge threw it out and told me, "sometimes even police make mistakes"

Running a steady 85, heading to Colorado from 1976 st.rod nats in Tulsa, didn't spot the blue "Bubble gum" on top of the Kansas trooper Dodge until too late!----Thats what he pegged me for---Escorted us to next town--put the check into envelope, & deposited into mailbox---& we were outa' there with 15 miles to go to the state line----Running a steady 85 again!!

I got my lic at 16 and am now 53 and knock on wood I have never had a speeding ticket. and I drive for a living. the only tickets I have gotton are 1 parking ticket, driving with one headlamp, driving with marker lamps mounted to my rear axle.

  14. At 16, 1962, not long after I got my license, in my first Model A. The cop wrote that I was "winding out in low gear," I told the judge that the official Model A literature said the car could not go that fast in second gear, and it was going uphill, too. He still took my license away for a couple weeks.

...spent all day today moving that same motor and tranny out of the back yard after too many years and into my shop a few miles away. Might have to get that thing running again, it was a good strong stock motor, but it is stuck now.

16 .... 62 mph in a 40 mph zone ... Cost me $26 ... Times sure have changed. Not the speeding; just the fines.

I was 13? "Borrowed" my parents' spare vehicle, 1984 Toy van, Ugh, went to lunch with some buddies, got caught doing about 40 in a 25, commonly known speed trap. Panicked, since I was driving without a license, tried to outrun the cops, what a joke, went about a mile then gave it up, all the much closer to my high school and in front of everybody. 3 motorcycle cops, boy were they pissed! Pulled me out, shook me around a bit by my shirt. I deserved it. this was about 1987. Went to court, dealt with all of it, still got my learners' permit at 15 and license on my 16th birthday. Had a few since, don't generally get stupid in public places these days.

  17. 16, ....... and maybe a week. Not just speeding, but (in the opinion of the officer) reckless driving.
We were at a neighboring town for their Homecoming football game. Our team won and I was heading out of town. Had to go around the town square, past the Court House and out a one-way street to hit the highway back home. I pulled over into the left lane (remember, I said a One Way Street!), to turn left and I got the red light in the rear mirror. Doesn't do much good for a 16 year old kid to argue with a drunk city cop!
My Dad took that part pretty well since he knew the cop (and knew about the drinking). What he didn't like was the broken drivers door window. :( I slammed the door when I got back to the car and the window shattered. (That was in the '55 Olds. God I wish I had that car back!!!!!!)
Dad went with me to pay the ticket at the Justice of the Peace. The cop didn't show so Dad kinda unloaded on the JOP. Didn't do much good, but he felt better. :D
Come to think of it, maybe that's where I get it! :D

A couple of years later this same cop was arrested for DUI, while driving his patrol car in another town. He was fired and ended up working in a lumber yard. I used to honk at him when I drove by.

Never got a speeding ticket. A few other tickets, but not speeding. Did get lit up for speeding once through Damascus Arkansas(well known speed trap), but he stopped when he realized I was in a cop car.

  23. Got my first I think in 74 when I was 23. The speed limit just reduced to 55 from 65. i was driving a 63 ford short bed unicab. it had a 430 MEl (still have the MEL)auto the speedometer wasnt calibrated. I seen him along side the road way before I got to him.I crused slowly by him. Got popped at a 61 mph. cost me $35. I never got another speeding ticket for decades. (can you say radiar detector) I have one hidden in a CB radio. Anyway I found out that trusty gem dont detect the new radar:(. 16 months ago.I was in the pete loaded to 80,000 going down a hill near vienna ill. I was a gear to high letting the jake brakes do their thing. 67 in a 55. that ticket cost me $75. Now Dot tickets& harrasment I wont mention because i dont feel like writing a book:eek:! Got my licence at 17, turn 63 next month and have never had a speeding ticket. (Touch wood)

Had some pretty fast cars in my time, drove them hard too, but only when the road was clear and no one around. I drive a bit slower these days, age must be catching up on me!

I'm having enough trouble coping with the idea of getting old, please don't try to make me grow up too...

    Cheers, Glen.

I was 18 but it was not for speeding, well sort of, exibition of speed they called it. I had just installed a new 650 dbl pumper and was tuning it. When down a straight away and clicked all 3 gears, before I knew it I had a black and white chasing me. I pulled over in front of my house and waited for him to catch up. There was no way I would have made it in side the house. He said he thought I was going about 60mph in a residetial street. In my head I was like "shit I let of on third gear at 6,500 rpm, thats about 110 mph at least." 65 chevelle 350 11:1 good heads, intake, stall, 4.11 gears and a solid cam. That thing pulled hard! I miss that car. Well he was with a partner and he was cool, he talked him down to giving me an exsiding the speed limit, that was about $100 bucks. I had a ticked for an open air cleaner from a CHP and that was $350 bucks.

Got my first ticket when I was 16. Technically it wasn't a speeding ticket, it was a careless driving ticket. I was at a red light on a four lane one way street, just got my license less than 2 months before. I was about 3 or 4 cars back in line. Light turned green, and as everyone started going I sort of weaved in and out of different lanes trying to get to the front so I could hit the gas on the longer stretch of open road ahead (I was driving a 2.3 liter 4 banger mustang, so "hitting the gas" really didn't have much effect!). Anyway, one of the other vehicles waiting at the light was a dog catcher. I didn't think anything of it until he was right up on my ass as I was cruising down the street. (don't recall exactly how fast but probably about 50 or 60 in a 35.) I quickly turned on to a side street and tried to run from him, thinking he was just a crazy dog catcher trying to get me top stop so he could yell at me to slow down. I turned a few quick corners trying to lose him over the course of a block or two but that 2.3 didn't have enough get up 'n go to get away from him! So I pulled over in a parking lot to take my ass chewing and be on my way. He just parked on the side of the street next to the parking lot and never got out of his truck. That's when I saw the police department logo on the door of his truck. Guess when I was a kid I didn't realize that animal control was a division of the police department! I about dropped a load in pants! I had watched way too many episodes of COPS, and having just "ran" from the "cops" I thought I was gonna' be arrested!!! Sat there for a couple minutes (seemed like hours) wondering why he was sitting in his truck not doing thing. I was just about to leave when the reason he didn't get out of his truck pulled into the parking lot. He must have radioed for a black and white and was just waiting for them to show up. So the officer came up to me, told me what the dog catcher told him about how I was driving, and them he told me that he should give me a reckless driving citation. He told me that I could go to jail for reckless driving. At this point I'm really going nuts, thinking my parents were gonna' take away my car until I was 21!!! Then he said since I just started driving and had no prior offenses he would give me a break and just write me a careless driving ticket on the animal control officer's behalf, so long as I learned a lesson from the experience. I gladly accepted the ticket, apologized incessantly, and immediately called my girlfriend at the time (now my wife) and told her the story. Still to this day she has NEVER let me live down the fact that I got a ticket from the dog catcher!!!
