In the current May issue of Hot Rod Deluxe, there is an article on old car dealership tags/emblems. I thought it would be interesting to start a similar photo-thread of the dealership tags on our cars and any history that is known about them. So I will start off with my newest project a 1965 Falcon Futura... Dales Ford Sales was the only Ford dealership in Winters, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com</st1:State>Texas from about the early-1960s until sometime in the 1970s. The owner was Dale Whitecotton. It was located on <st1:Street w:st="on"><st1:address w:st="on">Main Street</st1:address></st1:Street> in a building now occupied by Dollar General.
I bought my '05 convertible from what used to be BOB FORD on Michigan Ave. in Dearborn. It's now Fairlane Ford. It changed hands in the late '70's or early '80's.
Old dealership tags are great little artifacts, and we've had plenty of fun over on the Hemmings Blog tracking down the dealerships behind the tags: http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2010/02/03/scottsdale-lost-and-found-dealerships/ http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/category/locations/dealerships/ Once you get an address for the dealership, Google Maps is a great tool for finding out what became of the building. dan
