^^^ Incompetence, maybe. There are some auto parts stores that sell paint, and then there are some that have a paint department. The salesperson might not know his product as well as someone trained in the field.

Better luck in the other town!

Bruce, you're gonna get a bunch of varying opinions. Some right, some wrong, some just different, but still alright, ways to approach the job.
We're ***uming stuff on your primer spraying since you didn't say..........Is what you thought was epoxy primer sprayed over bare metal or old paint? If is was over bare metal, as the guys said , it probably should be removed. If over sanded and properly prepped old paint, what you used may be ok and not need removing. After you tell us what you did prior to the actual spraying, the guys here who really know their **** came let you know what you need or don't need to do from here.

Bruce has another thread going where he showed he was stripping down to bare metal.

Well that's good news. Maybe that's why they gave you the urethane although it would have made more sense to use a epoxy for it all as it would do both jobs, seal and bare metal, with one product.

I'm not sure but wouldn't a properly done job include removing all of the bright work to seal and paint underneath it?

Well yea. but this is what he WANTS to do, no shame in a nice "driver" paint job....2 things , have you ever had to R&R mouldings [broken clips , inaccessable clips, etc. and he'll be out driving & enjoying his car way sooner than the "purists"

Just making a comment. I'm well aware of the work and problems with what I asked about.

It has nothing to do with being a purist or anything like that.
But the extra time and work involved can make a difference in the longevity of the car.

A driver paint job is fine with me.

  11. Blue after this picture was taken I was reading one reply where some one said the stripper could leak under the bright work I did remove it all. Its all in the back seat now. Thanks Bruce.

Now that the trim is off youll be happier with the work. Also you wont have to worry about dinging it with the DA or getting paint on it
