    Hello All,
I'm hoping to resurrect this awesome thread- So much great info on hot running SBCs from the past!
I've been am***ing parts to built a nasty street/strip SBC and wanted to list some parts options for opinions, pros/cons etc.
Goal is a vintage "Day Two" style build. Vehicle will be 1969 Camaro Z/28.
Trans: Wide Ratio "M23" 4-speed from Auto gear with 2.52 1st gear.
Rear: 12 bolt Posi with 3:73 gears now. (open for increase to 4.10, 4.56)
Short block: .030 over 350, 4 bolt main block with good forged rods & 3.48 forged crank. forged flat-top pistons with valve reliefs.
Heads: Dart Iron Eagle heads, fully prepped & ported by Brzezinsky Racing in WI. straight plug with 66-67 CC chambers. (compression should be about 10.70)
Headers: NOS Black Jack Alumakotes from 1988- 1 5/8 primary tubes
Ignition: Mallory Unilite, NIB from mid '80s, plus Coil
Cam Options: Crane copy of #140 off-road cam, or Isky 505T Solid flat tappet (ordered direct with P55 Core upgrade)
Comp Roller lifters 1.6 ratio. Magnum Chromoly ones.
Intake options: (want to go old-school visuals)
    1. Edelbrock Torker (early 70's)
    2. Edelbrock Scorpion ('78ish)
    3. Factory Z/28 GM dual plane
    3. Edelbrock SY-1 Smoke Ram intake. (pretty rare piece, mint condition & previous owner did a lot of popsicle stick & epoxy work inside, claimed it ran like bat outta hell- strongest mid-range ever)
    4. Wieand Stealth Dual plane
    Carb: basic 750 Holley D/P?

I plan on running good gas, 101 octane VP at local station, or adding "Race Gas" or Torco additives to 91 premium or some blend of above.

    Thoughts??
RPM range? Streetability? Vacuum at idle?
love to hear feedback from older gents on here- (although I turned 54 last week myself-lol)
I bought the Isky 505T based on FalconGeorge comments on this thread (and others)
    Cheers!
    Jerry

Not that it's a big deal for me but you can expect some pushback on your car, a bit new for most folks here.
As to the engine, yeh, that should rip, could be a bit touchy for street driving but those cars always were, I had three pals in high school with them, a 68, 69 and a 70, mostly stock but a couple had headers, etc.
The saving grace is the fact that your car has a four speed with good rear gears to compliment the engine pieces.
I had an SY-1 intake on a 355 in the mid 70's, a bit out of its element on the street but doable?

Jerry455,... Depending on what intake port size Dart heads you have the SY-1 can have a hard time sealing, anything bigger than a Fel-Pro #1205 gasket the roof of the intake port in the head is practically visible OUTSIDE with the SY-1 intake installed. Most who own one of those intake aren't willing to weld on them to make them fit a decent modern head port, but that is what really needs to be done out at the roof of the intake port at the head face flange.. Those intakes were made with stock "Fuelie" head intake port dimensions in mind. A buddy ran into this trying to put an SY-1 on Dart 215cc Iron Eagles
Your Torker and the Z28 Dual Plane may have the same problem....all your modern heads raise the roof of the intake port from .100" to .200" from a stone stock head port location....its one of the ways they get the bigger volume and higher flow.

If you want best power with the intake choices you've got, the Scorpion is the choice. Best power would also require 1-3/4" primary headers if your going to rev it up over 6000 rpm.

    Great feedback- much appreciated!
Yes- intake ports are close but the 200cc Iron Eagles work with the Felpro #1205. I had Brzezinski test fit the Scorpion & SY-1 to the heads in his shop. A couple guys there were shocked to see the Smokey Ram intake- brought back a lot of memories of messing with them decades ago! He agreed the Scorpion was best option, but said I was giving up an easy 25hp not going with larger port "modern" intake- LOL.
The 1 5/8 headers are limiting factor too- but those were the exact headers I bought at 15 at Super Shops in 1981 for my first car- '69 Z/28. (was just a 10-12 year old car then, laughable what I paid for it- two summers of mowing lawns and I had the cash. good times. I figure I could always upgrade after getting it running.
I don't actually have the car yet, might work a deal on my brother's '69 Z/28. I know most everything on here is older, but most of the stories on this thread are cars like this when they were new or a few years old. I like all the eras- '55 Chevy like American Graffiti etc.
    Cheers

2178 is the part number for the LT1 cam casting number is 2182 on the cam, 7141 is stamped on the end of the 7140 part number cam. These wide lobe centers just don't work as well as a 108 or 106 lobe center. They created more vacuum and idled better but that's it.
