I use a Snow White on my A with Chevy 6cyl pumps found it at Moultrie years ago for $50 use 5 blade fan
I know this is an old thread but I'm glad I came across this as it has been so helpfull . Picking up my Radiator from the Br***works and he sells water pumps for the Zip riser but what thru me off was its for a 6 cylinder so I'm thinking how does this work for a SBC? After reading this thread now I know, thanks fellas!
Question for Deuce Roadster, I now have my ZIP riser & water pump thanks to Br***works Radiator. I am at the stage of installing the motor and radiator, what clutch fan & fan did you use? Any help is will appreciated, thanks!
I realize your post and questions are directed to Deuce Roadster and I won't invade that. Randy can write a book on what I Don't Know. Just a caution: Pay attention about the GM bleeder valve! I had already mounted the riser with glued gaskets, and ditto for the water puimp, then when I got the GM valve it was gonna require a simple drill & tap operation, but all my **** was glued on!!!!!! And that means that a drill & tap is followed with a lot of chips to remove. Gonna be a PITA with pump & riser already glued in place! So the rinky-dink from Zip is still there! Dave
Hey Dave no problem there, funny thing is my buddy is a parts manager for a GM dealership and he got me that bleeder valave and dropped it off tonite. The fist thing I did was to remove the screw that came with the ZIP riser and I saw that it smaller than the bleeder valve. Good thing I had not mounted the water pump or I would have issues like you said.
On the 32 Roadster, I have a V8 Monza 7 blade clutch fan. I have been told that GM no longer lists them in their parts catalog But I have not tried. On the 32 3W coupe ... I have a 7 blade fan ... no clutch setup. I have another V8 Monza setup ... but decided to try a 7 blade fan without a clutch. It cools the ZZ430 just fine. Shown without the fan ... The 32 3W has A/C also. The no clutch fan was a experiment on my part ... but I see no reason to change it. I do run a shroud on both the 32's.
Dirty old man, Put some heavy grease on the tap to contain most of the chips. chips in coolant not as bad as chips in oil. Ago
Not at all sure about clearance between tap and plate on back of impeller blades when the tap has to sink in far enough to get proper thread dia. on the tapered tap for pipe taper threads. Think I'm gonna look around for one of those screw gripping screwdrivers with the split blade that you expand in the screw slot. With one of those I don't think it'll be a lot more trouble than the GM unit. Dave
what is the purpose of the clutch fan and does it really help that much... (hardly ever see them on hotrods)
The fan will slip when it is not needed, freeway speeds and when cold. It takes the load off the water pump, allows faster warmups, quieter running and better gas milage
Harley Rider, I noticed the bracket that is on there, is that the same bracket that ZIP shows on there sheet as part #715894?
that is a GM # you can get them from chevy dealers. I found this one at O'Reilys. It is close enough, only $10.
Got it at Reids Hot Rod Parts as I just happen to be buying some other parts and looked over at a display board and there it was $8.95! mounted it over the weekend thanks for the info!
OK , I pretty sure I need some kind of water pump riser to cool my 35 Ford down when in traffic..be it a Zip or the other make... My question, and maybe I didn't read far enough back . Can this set up be ran with a SBC with generator on it ? I'm running the old 265 v8 chevy exhaust manifoild(283 ci engine in my rig) with generator and bracket located off the exh. manifold. The car runs 180 all day long, but at idle and in traffic the temp starts going up. New radiator, engine is fresh... If someone has done this with a generator let me know... I may need to go back and read more on this tread, read about the bleeder valve and part number and tapping ... Thanks Rob
I have a Zip's riser on my sbc, and a non GM alternator. I had to machine an adaptor block to mount between the alt. bracket on the left side of the riser and the alternator itself, but not a big deal. Dave
I have an alternator ran off the driver exhaust and am looking for a generator to replace it. so yes it will work. I used a 60 inch belt i believe
I'm running the stock cast iron 4-barrell intake manifold right now. My generator and mounting bracket is on driver side also. I'm running a hood and side on my 35 Ford 5w coupe... What fan are you running ? and are you using a 235 "6" banger water pump... also read that a bleeder valve needs to be installed also .
The fan came from speedway. They got them in a bunch of sizes and there cheap and look and feel well built. I think it said there an oem leftover. The water pump i think is for the later motor not a 235. Yep i did the bleeder valve. Youll see why when you get the zip kit. Its just a stupid screw. Nice looking 35 by the way.
I am going to use an early Offenhauser 3x2 manifold from the 60's with three Holley 94's on an early 283 sbc in my Model A sedan. Has anyone used this set-up with a Zipps and if so did you have to modify the oil fill tube on the front of the manifold?
