So why can’t it be had via outside vendors???

When I called V-A last year
Sales put me on hold & said he would go to shelf & verified where in stock
They where Then.

Afew months ago I try to pick up a few AutoMeter gauges @ place I have acct with , was told Vender out of stock ,I said Not true , while there I called
A -M on speaker , 500 on shelf

Here's a pic of mine in a 32 Ford roadster...I used a pump from Cool-it.
Ihave the CAD file for the alternator bracket if anyone wants to use it. Sent it to Send-cut-send and this is how it came to me in raw stainless...

 

Someone should mention this to O'Brien Truckers. They do a lot of casting and it might be something they would be interested in adding to their line. I doubt there are any patents.

 

I think little out side thinking
Can be made to look some what good.
Skeleton cut shaping .
Use 1/8 plate or 3/16
Both might need 1 or 2 gusset on back to stiffen for flex .

Also Most might not be aware
Warring sticker or stamped
Fan not to exceed
6,000 rpms


Plate shaped & bolt to block
Make plate 3 inch or what ever tall to if want to put fan in center of Rad ,
Side of water pump on each side
Tap 3/8 - 1/2 pipe or sae ,
Pump bolt to plate riser ,
The 3/8 -1/2 house preform or flex
Jic ext ,
@ block between 2 bolts on each side
Drill , add ****** Jic ext .
Now you have a Riser..

and yes on the road you're not gonna find modified sbc water pump but you can add a seal and a gasket now your modified water pump housing is ready to go.

I have even taken a water pump
Cut off mounting ears move pump where ever Belt drive ,
Made brackets to have a fan in different
Location ,
Would like to had camera to take pictures of many wired stuff I have done
would never thought any would care to see needed to be shown just poor getting something to work , Farm fix or just fit my needs

 

Deuce Roadster had a nice write up on using the Zip kind of adapter. He suggested using a plate on the impeller to help push the water. Also there is an aluminum pump at Sumit that the impeller has a plate.

 

And Flow Kooler makes a pump that they actually market as compatible with a Zips Riser. I’ve used 4 of em now and they work greaaat.
It’s a 1777CW, but it’s a wee bit pricey.

Just seen one for sale about a month ago. If you want there's a swap meet coming up and I'll look for one.

 

I asked Ray at Roadster Supply about manufacturing a Zips clone and he said in the years he's been selling them there was not enough demand to justify the investment.

 

With today's CNC and laser-cutting technology/availability, it could be made without casting relatively cheaply - especially en-m***e. you'd have to have the front plate bolt-on with a gasket to create the inner chamber - as it's CNC'd, a gland for a large o-ring could be easily machined and that could eliminate the need for a gasket. Send me dimensions and I'll CAD it up - and get pricing.

 

As suggested by RockyMtnWay I e-mailed Flow Kooler for info on the riser availability, they reengineered the water pump for the "Zips" riser compatibility to overcome cavitation etc. but unless I've overlooked their offerings, they did not show the riser... I'll chime in if I get a return response.....They appear to be a more than a capable company if of benefit to them. Ron

 

Need a guy like Cory Taulbert to model on then you could have it 3d printed in metal even.

 

This would cost A LOT to 3D print from any metal and would require much post-machining/set-up to square and true it anyhow.
This isn't rocket science. Dimensions, anyone?

Using like the riser to the block bolts spacing as a start in reference point

 

I ask Dennis about making them, the cost to set up is mind numbing.

SDS: Your chance to become a millionaire. Jump in there and do a Zips Riser. I remember what ti cost to do the 409 to Flathead water pump kit development in the 90's. If I wouldn't have had the help of a couple really good friends, one with a large CNC machine shop and the other a steel fabricator the kit would have never became available.

 

I work in engineering at a firearms company

 

For starters;
Diameter of water holes
Center to center measurement on water holes
Diameter of water pump hole
All bolt hole diameters (through holes and threaded)
Depth from water pump mounting face to bottom of inside cavity

At some point, detailed dimensions of the left and right side bracketry

I can 3D print one from nylon and mail it if you'll do a fitment check and give feedback

 

A million pennies, maybe. it's gotta be super-easy to produce to have any chance of being a viable product.

 

Rather than reverse engineer it, engineer it. Items you’ll need. Bare SBC, V8 Short waterpump, L6 water pump and 5” up. The rest will fall into place.

Another hurtle. How much of a hold does Vintage Air have on this design that Zip started? Can anyone copy it?
