Great Grandpa started it when he bought a new Buick in 1908, learned to drive in the train yard in L.A. where it was shipped and drove to San Diego spent a year and then back home to San Francisco. Grandpa's favorite car was his '32 Cadillac which he drove until 1952 when my Dad got married and Granpa knew he wouldn't be spending any week-ends keepin' it running for him any longer. His brother was into Mercer's, has an article in Antique Auto 1959 on the L-head. Dad's 1st car was a 1919 T touring which he got in 1943 for $10 and a carton of Lucky Strikes. Immediately removed the fenders, left the jack strapped to one running board and a tool box on the other; named "Black Widow." His favorite cars were a '34 3 window and his '51 coupe. My first car was a '57 Chevy 2 dr. wagon, $200 in '73 dollars. 1st "hot rod" was a '39 jalopy home built roadster built by Al Atha in San Diego in '62. It's in a buddy's barn in Creston. Sold my 9 second '59 Elky, need another one of those. Still just one car away from happiness.Interact
