Rocky Finlayson

Grew up in Sheridan, Wyoming around two motorhead brothers and last place I lived in Sheridan...was next to the AMC / Honda / International / Ski Doo dealer. Got to grow up around a LOT of hot rod stuff...and just wasn't old enough to own or drive any of it at the time (1970). I was stuck on my 66 Schwinn...with ape hangers...banana seat...5 speed stick shift...and hand brakes. Did a LOT of trail riding...and a LOT of crashing.
Moved to Central City in October 1970...drove my 56 Dodge... then another...then drifted into a 71 V-8 Vega...and other
'odd ball' cars.
Ended up working as the photographer for Scribner Raceway (1980-1985) and that 'morphed' into being involved in a LOT of motorsports things around the eastern end of Nebraska until I quit and came back to Central City to work in the family insurance business (sold it in 1997).
I'm 'still' involved in the motorhead scene...but 'very' lightly. My priority is watching after my 89 year old mother... who 'still' drives her 76 Dodge Charger big block car...and her 87 Chrysler 5th Avenue...which is her 'baby'. There's a LOT more to this than what I typed.
Basically was finishing my Christmas letter for 2011 (it's late)...and got to thinking about Cornhusker Raceway Park. As photographer at Scribner...I did all kinds of various things at the track... including writing articles for the National Dragster...selling billboard advertising around the track...and did a 'race day' program that had history...features on racers...and I kept the 'stat's on the records for the track. Fun time of my life.
I also have a stack of sale bills for the auction out at Cornhusker Raceway Park somewhere in my collection. Gave one to Dwight Strobel at Strobel Motorsports for his hot rod shop in downtown Central City. I'm open to 'anyone' calling or writing me about any history they know. I know plenty...
but am very much about preserving the history of the sport of drag racing...or any other history about any type of car stuff or racing. Thanks for this opportunity to 'run my fingers'.
